Luke is introduced in Chapter 3 of Elder’s Secret.

Luke was born in Atlantis to Sarah and Horace Banks. He was very unexpected and born ten years after his brother, Greg. His parents were shocked at the news since they thought they were no longer able to have children. They accepted it as a miracle of sorts and were excited at the growth of their family. Luke was in his third year of school when his mother was killed on assignment to the surface. Horace fell apart afterwards. Three years later he had a complete breakdown and Luke was placed in the care of his brother.

Greg was 21 when the burden of looking after his younger brother was placed upon him. Greg was involved in a number of advanced training and research programs by now, getting ready to be placed into the Order. This left Luke alone quite often. More often than should have been allowed. He started to take more advanced classes. By the time he was ready to graduate from school he had been taking the advanced courses needed to enter the Order. After he received his certification from the school Greg was sent out of the City to begin his research work for the Order. At this point Luke still had a number of classes and training regimens to complete before the Order would give him his desired position.

He found his own place and continued his studies. He was training to become a Special Operations Agent for the Order. There were only two other people in training with him: Sabrina Verse and Walter Kessler. While Luke tried to keep to himself, Sabrina quickly formed a bond between them, before Luke had even realized. He saw her as a friend, and someone he trusted with his life in a tight situation. The two excelled at all aspects of their curriculum and upon completion the Order saw fit to keep them partnered together.

Three years had passed since Greg left for his assignment and he appeared again at Luke’s doorstep without notice. His return brought his fiance Karen to Luke’s door too. The two had met during their research assignment and were getting married in a few days. Greg asked Luke to be his best man. It was the only option for him really. Luke was the only family left, but he felt put out. The two had never really built a relationship. Greg was always so focused on doing what he wanted when he wanted he missed most of Luke growing up. He accepted the position and stood by his brother and watched as the two near strangers married. Soon after, Karen was pregnant. They stayed in the city until the baby was born. This gave Luke the time to build a relationship with his brother.

The time Greg spent out of Atlantis made him realize how he had neglected his only sibling. Luke was still a bit wary of the relationship, but after the baby was born the bond was solidified. Greg and Karen named their baby Colin. Luke was attached at once. He felt the want to protect his nephew. To make sure he was always safe. He only had a few months with Colin before the parents were assigned a new research location on the surface. They took Colin with them, Leaving Luke alone again.

Luke was positioned in the Investigation and Retrieval department of the Special Operations. His job was to monitor all psionic manifestations around the globe and then mobilize a team to investigate the situation and retrieve the newly found psionic before the witches did. After a year he was given a short break to go visit his brother on the surface. Just as he was getting ready to leave, news had come to Atlantis that the research outpost Greg and Karen had been working had been attacked. There were no survivors.

Four years later, Luke never accepted it. He knew in his heart that Colin was still alive. He used every resource at his disposal. Hunted down ever lead, did a few questionable methods of information gathering, but eventually he found Colin. Covered in sealing spells and barriers all over a small town in central Florida. Unable to move in, they had to wait. It took eleven years of waiting before Colin broke the seals binding his powers. Thanks to Luke’s efforts the Order was able to react immediately to Colin’s manifestation. Even if he would never take credit for it.

That’s some background on Luke Banks. To find out what happened after Colin manifested you’ll just have to wait for the book to be published. Stay tuned for more Character Profiles. There are a lot more people to learn about.
